Northwest 73, Washburn 68

Northwest survived a second half push by Washburn on the Ichabods' home floor to earn a 73-68 road win Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats (15-1, 5-1 MIAA) were down by four points with 5:36 to go, and trailed by three with 3:57 remaining in the game, but the defending champs never panicked. Northwest outscored Washburn 11-3 in the final three and a half minutes to pick up its seventh straight victory.

Junior forward Ryan Hawkins led all scorers with 32 points on 11-18 shooting, with 22 of those coming in the first half.

Luke Waters matched a career-high with 14 points in the win. Diego Bernard posted 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.

Trevor Hudgins finished the night with 13 points putting himself right at the threshold of the 1,000 point club. The sophomore from Manhattan, KS is sitting at 999 career points. He also went 5-6 at the free throw line in the final two minutes to seal the win.

Northwest returns home Saturday, January 18 to face rival Missouri Western. Pregame begins at 3pm on KXCV 90.5 and KRNW 88.9.
